SITE PLAN

Our goal is to create a surfers paradise, offering legendary and authentic amenities and perfect waves without the crowds. You have arrived at Snug Harbor.

  • Why build a surf park at the beach?
The same reason you build soccer stadiums near soccer players. With consistent waves, and repetition, in a controlled and safe environment, surfers of all ages and skill levels will be able to surf year-round with guaranteed wave quality and quantity. By removing mother nature from the equation, you also eliminate variables like too low of a tide, too high of a tide, inconsistent waves, LACK OF SWELL, wrong swell direction, and the like. Snug Harbor will provide a controlled environment that produces the same perfect waves to meet all skill levels over and over with the lagoon positioned in a manner that when that morning wind comes up makes our ocean waves junk – the wind blows offshore making Snug Harbors waves even more perfect. A surfer’s dream come true – surfing anytime.
  • Is this a residential project?
No — the Snug Harbor Surf Park proposal is for outdoor recreational use only. It is not a part of or associated with any other projects. It has been misstated that this project includes or is a part of a residential project.
  • Does this project trigger Greenlight?
The project approval process DOES NOT require a citywide vote — Greenlight.
  • Why are you requesting a general plan amendment?
The project is consistent with the Newport Beach General Plan and Zoning in terms of being an outdoor recreational use. We are requesting a GPA – General Plan Amendment to allow for an increase in the allowable building size for the surfing operations, which includes storage areas for surfboards, wetsuits and golf carts.
  • Has the city already approved the Snug Harbor Surf Park?
The Newport Beach City Council approved a contract to hire a consultant to prepare the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which is paid for by the project applicant. We are in the very beginning stages of a public planning process, and we will be offering numerous opportunities for public input and comment on the project. This project is NOT exempt from environmental review and will ultimately culminate in public hearings before the City of Newport Beach.
